Young lady grabs mic in store and starts to sing Whitney classic, she’s instantly going viral

We all love a good musical performance, especially when an amateur surprises us with a display of musical talent. A young lady was at the mall when she saw a karaoke machine on display and decided to treat everyone to her amazing ability to channel Whitney Houston.

People have always enjoyed singing along, but the invention of the karaoke machine took it to a whole new level. It was the brainchild of the businessman (and musician) Daisuke Inoue and after its debut in 1971, it soon became all the rage in Japan and then around the world. The machine uses special recordings of songs with the vocals removed; that way, the user does the actual singing rather than just singing along.

Whitney Houston got her start in singing when she joined a junior gospel choir. After a career in modeling, while also pursuing music, she released her first album and quickly became famous. She went on to sell over 200 million records, picking up numerous awards along the way, including multiple Grammys. It was a major loss for the world of music when Houston passed away in 2012, only 48 years old.

The Whitney Houston song the young lady at the mall did such a spectacular job with was “I Will Always Love You.” Houston’s version of the song remains the best-selling single by a woman in the history of the music business. The original country music version, written and performed by Dolly Parton in 1973, was itself a huge success. Nearly 20 years later, Houston created her new interpretation of the song for “The Bodyguard,” a movie in which she starred opposite Kevin Costner. A New York Times critic put it well: “Houston transforms a plaintive country ballad into a towering pop-gospel assertion of lasting devotion to a departing lover.”
