The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Owl is released, taking a lot of love with her

‘Empty nest syndrome’ takes on a whole new meaning as the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Owl is finally returned to the wild.

It began with the discovery of a baby owl in the Christmas tree outside of the Rockefeller Center in Manhattan. It was clear that the little one needed the help of professionals.

‘Rocky’ became quite the little internet celebrity among animal lovers. While owl addicts awwed over her, wildlife rehab workers tirelessly kept vigil to make sure Rocky could return to the wild.

Caring for wild animals is one thing. Caring for animals that are wild and injured is another. Love is just as much a part of the job as any technical skill or discipline.

This video shows us the silent parting between Rocky and one of her caregivers. You might write it off as boring if you didn’t wait for the woman’s reaction at the very end.

The video lends new meaning to the phrase ‘empty nest syndrome.’ The caregiver’s body language tells us that Rocky got a lot from her human friends during her recovery.
