Ralphee is a little kitten who was rescued from a barn at a horse stable. This poor girl suffers from a neurological disorder called feline cerebellar hypoplasia. A kitten was born with “CH” and that means their cerebellum is underdeveloped at birth. Cats with this condition are often known for their “drunken sailor” walks, and are also endearingly called “wobbly cats.”
When Ralphee was introduced to Max the cattle dog, they were infatuated with each other’s company. Max is always curious about Ralphee and he never strays far away from her. He watches over her wherever she goes. In this clip, Max is watching her play in the garden and he never gets far from her, just like a guardian angel.
Ralphee is getting more mischievous over time and she loves to see what Max is doing as well. She gets enthusiastic when he is nearby and leaps in the air before playfully charging in his direction. Max doesn’t mind at all when little Ralphee gets rambunctious, maybe because she’s so small he knows she could never hurt anyone.
This condition may look disturbing, but Ralphee is not in pain and she doesn’t know any other way to be. She doesn’t know she’s different, and having Max there to watch out for her is a big comfort to the family. She’s a happy and healthy kitty that just happens to have special needs.
