‘Why, you did say something, didn’t you?’. First released in 1939, you can now experience this classic Technicolor scene in 4K quality, thanks to a bit of remastering magic by the film editor Oriel Malik!
This particular scene begins with our beloved protagonist Dorothy, who’s on her way to find the Wizard of Oz. She’s hoping to find her way back to Kansas, but she hears a voice along the way.
When Dorothy approaches, the Scarecrow shakes and nods his head a few times in a playful manner. ‘Are you doing that on purpose, or can’t you make up your mind?’ Dorothy inquires as Scarecrow nods and shakes his straw head.
‘That’s the trouble. I can’t make up my mind! I haven’t got a brain,’ the Scarecrow replies. After a brief introduction and an explanation of his predicament, the Scarecrow is freed from his post.
Once free, he tries to give Dorothy a scare! ‘Did I scare you?’ Just then, a crow flies up and lands on his shoulder, adding to his frustrations of being unable to scare even a simple bird.
His solution? ‘If only I had a brain!’ You’ll surely recognize this classic tune (and you’ll undoubtedly remember the one that follows!). Sadly, the entire film hasn’t been remastered just yet.
Still, you can experience this and other classic scenes from your childhood, now in stunning 4K quality. Come along, now. ‘We’re Off to See the Wizard’!
