The Beach Boys drive the crowd wild with ‘I Get Around’

The Ed Sullivan Show was the show to tune into if you wanted to see the latest music acts. The hottest acts would always be on his show. The Beach Boys were a natural fit.

The Beach Boys

Given the popularity of The Beach Boys during the late 1960s, the crowd went wild. All Sullivan has to say is, ‘Here are the Beach Boys!’

After the audience gives screams with joy for the boy band, the camera turns over to the Beach Boys. Appearing on stage with cars, they start singing ‘I Get Around.’ The cheering takes a while to stop, even once they start playing.

The first few lyrics are sung with close-ups of the band. Those at home with small televisions probably loved the camera’s closeness for these shots.

The broadcast cuts around to different shots. We get shots of the cars on stage and footage of fun at the beach.

As the guitar playing kicks in and the dancing starts on stage, the women in the audience go wild. You can hear them voicing joy with the performance.

The crowd even seems to time their cheers. With each lyrical passage that finishes, the cheers erupt. It could be that they found a moment to cheer or the camera footage cuts to another close-up of a band member.

As the band brings the song home, screams erupt throughout the audience, along with claps. What a time to be a Beach Boys fan!
