Carolina Wrens don’t fly south for the winter. Once they find a home, they are permanent residents. They like lower areas close to the ground to hide. They love to eat insects, caterpillars, beetles, cockroaches, and moths. They are known to eat small frogs, snakes, and lizards.

Fill your bird feeders with sunflower seeds, suet, and mill worms to attract Carolina Wrens. It is most important to feed them in the wintertime since it’s harder for them to find food. The oldest known living Carolina Wren was seven years, and eight months old, recorded in 1997.

It takes about a week to complete a nest. The female will lay three to seven eggs under one inch in length, cream with red-rusty spots, it will take ten to sixteen days for them to hatch. The male and female will take turns bringing the babies food.
