Woman helps baby ducks cross busy highway to find their mother

Most people know the answer to why the chicken crossed the road. But what about the mama duck? A woman and her child found out when they saw a mama duck and her little ones on a busy street.

Baby ducks crossing road

On a foggy day in Wisconsin, 12 ducklings and their mom waddled toward the highway. All the fuzzy babies huddled close to their mom, following her every step down the street.

Cars zoomed past on the highway, but the mama duck was determined to get her babies to the other side. Slowly, she guided her little ones across the street and hopped over a curb to the other side.

But there was a problem. The babies were too short to get over the curb. Chirping for their mother, a few ducklings threw themselves over the step, but only four babies could do it.

That left eight little ones chirping furiously for their mother to come to rescue them, but there was nothing she could do. So, a kind woman stepped in to guide the babies back to their mom.

She walked up to the ducklings, and they immediately followed her to a place where the sidewalk curved down to the street. After that, the babies reconnected with their siblings and their mother and walked down to the safety of the water.

We might not know why the duckling and their mom crossed the road, but at least we have a clear answer as to how they did so: with one compassionate woman’s help.
