One man leads 600 music teachers in powerful performance of ‘Amazing Grace’

Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser knew what he was doing when he got 600 music teachers to sing “Amazing Grace.” This fun challenge ended with all of them merging into one raw, elegant melody.

Six hundred music teachers who attended a conference received an impromptu harmony lesson when one of the speakers prompted them to sing “Amazing Grace,” a famous hymn sung by both choirs and solo singers.

This iconic song was written by John Newton as a way of thanking the Lord for giving him a new life. As a sailor, John was well-known for his crude language and his actions. But one day, he was caught in the middle of a terrible storm.

The lyrics talk about giving thanks and finding a new life serving the Lord. The centuries-old song symbolized Newton’s life when he started as a tough sailor but changed his ways after a fateful day at sea. After surviving, he turned to God and decided to be a Christian.

Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser had all the music teachers stand up and sing “Amazing Grace” without the lyrics. Instead, he instructed them to sing only on “Ah.” From there, a completely untested musical performance takes place, and how sweet it is!

Dr. Lautzenheiser was the talented keynote speaker at the Manitoba Music Educators “Tempo Conference,” where this impromptu harmony occurred.

Educators in attendance were part of the annual Manitoba Music Educators “Tempo Conference.” All the music educators present sang the ever-popular song “Amazing Grace” in this brilliant and incredibly untested performance. The response and the melody were just spectacular.
