Many an aspiring singer, dancer, comedian, or other performer aspires to appear on “America’s Got Talent,” the hit reality TV talent show where contestants of all ages compete for glory and a million-dollar prize. A panel of celebrity judges get the last word, but people in the audience, both live and at home, get to register their opinions, too.
The show’s season 12 finale saw 52 million audience votes pour in. Once eight of the ten finalists were eliminated, it was a contest between two youngsters: 10-year-old Angelica Hale from Atlanta and 12-year-old Darci Lynne Farmer from Oklahoma. Given Angelica’s amazing singing voice and especially her astonishing rendition of David Guetta’s “Without You,” it was really no surprise she was a contender for the top spot. Darci Lynne was there thanks to her impressive skill as a singing ventriloquist. From start to finish, Judges and audience were wowed by the way she had her puppets “sing” numbers by George Gershwin, the Jackson Five, Aretha Franklin, and The Beatles.
Angelica and Darci Lynne were both overcome with emotion while they waited to find out which of them would be the big winner. When Tyra Banks announced that it was Darci Lynne, Angelica was a good sport and gave her a hug. Not many kids her age are that classy!
You’ll see some of Darci Lynne’s ventriloquist virtuosity in the video posted below. For the final round, she had two puppets on stage with her, Petunia the diva rabbit and Oscar the shy mouse. There was a little comedic banter among the three of them before it was time to cue up the music. Appropriately enough, she had them “sing” the Beatles classic “With a Little Help From My Friends.” The contrast between Darci Lynne’s frozen lips and her powerful voice will leave you flabbergasted.
